The Elizabeth Hospice's mission is to enhance the quality of life for those nearing life's end and to provide support for those who are grieving. Their core beliefs include access to quality palliative care, tailored medical, emotional and spiritual support to the patient and the family, and support for the bereaved, while respecting the values of the larger society in which we operate.
Patient care volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to a hospice family in a variety of ways: caregiver relief, social visits, running errands, light housekeeping, and dog walking.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Signing up: Please complete the Volunteer Application to start the onboarding process.
Onboarding Requirements: Attend a volunteer orientation (1 hour) and volunteer training (6 hours), complete a self-study guide and training video (online, self-paced), 2 step TB test, background check, drug screening, and provide proof of driver's license and auto insurance.
Time Commitment: Shifts to volunteer are available daily with flexible hours built around their patients' needs. A typical weekly volunteer visit is 4 hours or less.
Preferred Experience: Hospice, patient care, death doula, palliative care, senior citizen, end of life doula, eldercare, or spiritual
Location: Volunteers serve in patient homes throughout San Diego County
